Re-roofing replaces the roof covering entirely rather than repairing it. Some roofs have simply had their last repair — the tiles are porous, the sheets have rusted through, or the money is better spent once and properly. Converting an ageing tile roof to Colorbond steel is one of the most common requests, and it takes a heavy, high-maintenance roof off the house for good.

Common questions
Can new Colorbond go straight over the old tiles?
No. On a tile-to-metal conversion the tiles come off first. The battens and structure are checked and adjusted for the new roof, then the metal roof goes on with new flashings and capping. Laying metal over tiles would add weight and hide any damage underneath.
Is a metal roof hotter than a tile roof?
Not by itself. Comfort under either roof depends mostly on the insulation and sarking underneath and the colour on top. Lighter colours reflect more heat.
Is a Colorbond roof noisy in the rain?
Metal is louder than tile in heavy rain, but an insulation blanket laid under the sheets cuts the noise a lot.
Do I need council approval to re-roof?
It depends on the property. If your home is a heritage place or sits in a historic or character area, changing the roof material or look may need approval. Check with your council or PlanSA before committing to a change like tile to metal.
How long does a re-roof take?
It depends on the size and shape of the roof and on the weather. Sam will give you a timeframe with the quote.
